FAQs

Criminal defence is the legal representation provided by solicitors to individuals accused or charged with criminal offences.

It is advisable to seek the assistance of a criminal defence solicitor as soon as you become aware that you are a person of interest, have been arrested, or are facing criminal charges. It is essential to have legal representation from the early stages to ensure your rights are protected during police questioning, evidence gathering, and court proceedings. Consulting with a criminal defence solicitor promptly allows them to build a strong defence strategy on your behalf.

A criminal defence solicitor provides comprehensive legal support and guidance throughout the criminal justice process. They will:

 > Analyse the evidence against you and assess its legality and reliability.

 > Develop a robust defence strategy tailored to your specific case.

 > Advocate for your rights, challenge any unlawful procedures, and protect you from self-incrimination.

 > Represent you in negotiations, bail applications, and court hearings.

 > Gather additional evidence, interview witnesses, and consult with experts if necessary.

 > Provide advice and guidance on the potential consequences and options available to you.

When choosing a criminal defence solicitor, consider the following factors:

 > Experience and expertise: Look for a solicitor with significant experience in criminal law and a track record of successfully handling cases similar to yours.
 > Reputation: Research the solicitor’s reputation, including client testimonials, peer recognition, and professional achievements.
 > Communication and rapport: Choose a solicitor you feel comfortable working with, as open and effective communication is crucial for a strong defence.
 > Resources and support: Ensure the solicitor has access to the necessary resources, such as a skilled support team and expert witnesses, to strengthen your defence.
